- Society Updates -

By Lisa Forsyth, Pharm.D., FCCM; SMSHP president-elect; Apr 2026

The Southeastern Michigan Society of Health-System Pharmacists is off to a great start, continuing to build on remarkable momentum in 2025. The hybrid continuing education programs have been very successful and reflect our commitment to our members.

Branding and Engagement

SMSHP is focused on branding and engagement to establish consistent, professional and organizational visibility. We started by updating our logo, establishing a branding toolkit, working on a website refresh, and continuing our strong presence on social media platforms (LinkedIn/Facebook/Instagram). We continue to increase traffic via social media and grow the membership.

Additionally, SMSHP plans to recognize and reflect on its strong legacy since its establishment in 1946.

Continuing Education Programs

In October, we hosted our annual Residency Showcase and Reverse Expo at Vista Tech Center in Livonia. Both events were well attended and proved to be great success.

Our continuing education events provide advanced and up-to-date content tailored for pharmacy professionals. In January, we had to pivot to a fully virtual event because of unexpected severe weather to keep our members safe. We maintained strong attendance for this event, which highlighted the need to examine our winter programming and communication strategies for last-minute announcements.

Continuing education program topics are tailored to our member’s needs. We are proud to have hosted the following events in 2026:

  • Jan. 14 – Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud, Pharm.D., MBA: “Specialty Pharmacy & Biosimilars – Definitions, Market Access, Michigan Landscape and Cost Outlook (2026)”
  • Feb. 11 – Dr. Sharon Boji, Pharm.D., BCPS: “Diabetes Technology: CGMs and Beyond”
  • March 11 – Dr. Kyle Quirk, Pharm.D., BCPMP: “Buprenorphine for Analgesia – 2026 Updates”
